Critical Review
So at this time, I will discuss the critical review. This critical review is one of a kind and the related methodologies are analyzed against the SALSA framework
Critical review Aims to show that the author has extensively researched literature and critically assessed its quality. Furthermore, the critical review includes the level of analysis and conceptual innovation. Usually creates a hypothesis or model. Synthesis of critical reviews usually has a narrative pattern, perhaps conceptual or chronological.
Here's how to write a critical paper
1. Read the paper and look for its main issues to get an overview of the entire paper.
2. Discuss the literature with someone else. Because discussing may clarify your understanding and trigger some initial ideas. So after that, you can write down general ideas or themes.
3. Read the paper again. Then identify and analyze the paper by looking for the subject/s of the article, the conclusion/s of the writer, and the arguments and/or data that the writer provides to reach his or her conclusion/s. Understand the reading critically and analytically. You can also connect some existing points with the theory in question so that you can look more critical
4. Write out a quick “flow” diagram of the article which covers the main points of each paragraph. The point of the diagram should be to show the relationships between the main points in the article.
5. Read your notes again and look at the diagram you have made. Recheck again with other people whether the criticism and agreement are appropriate or not, these criticisms could relate to the:
- theoretical claims
- evidence
- case method
- statistical support
- use of other writers’ arguments, etc
6. Now start writing your critical review. The review must be short and should be largely in your own words.
In the introduction, the things that need to be written are a general overview of the article, an overview of your review, the anticipation of your conclusion. In introducing the article, you should also mention the author’s name and the title of the article. Pay attention to the writing of existing names, such as the name of the character, the name of the author, the title of the journal or reading you are using, and the year of publication properly and correctly.
In the body of the review, the contents are about summary and criticism sections in roughly equal proportions.
In the conclusion or inference of the paper, the contents are about a recap of the main points
raised in the review, noting specifically where you have agreed and disagreed with the writer. Conclusions may also provide your suggestions for further research work or the context in which the work you have reviewed can be used.
Example Paper Critical Review: Kulviwat, S., Guo, C. & Engchanil, N. Determinants of online information search: a critical review and assessment. Internet Research: Electronic Networking Applications and Policy, 2004.
The advantages of critical review are of their critical nature. Therefore, the critical review is made the initial foundation for carrying out the next phase because it has taken literature and evaluated what is valuable from the previous body of work, Seeks to identify the most significant items in the field, and might also try to complete a competitive school of thought.
Disadvantages of critical reviews do not typically demonstrate the systems of other more structured approaches to literature. No formal quality assessment attempts to evaluate according to contribution.
